Tinkering Activity – VHS tapes

I tried to look for activities that my boys could do that 1. would not take a lot of time, 2. will not cost a lot of money, and 3. will be interesting or fun or educational. Then I saw that “tinkering” would be a wonderful activity! We started with cassette tapes. We still have a lot of those in the house and I thought, what do we do with these? And tinker was the answer. So the boys got a cassette tape each and they opened them up and we checked out the parts, the function of some of those parts and the fun part was unraveling the tape! The boys didn’t realize that it was going to be that long! After opening up the tapes, we had to throw them away naturally, but at least they got to tinker with them first.

Here are photos of another tinkering activity – VHS tapes:

This is definitely a fun activity for the boys! Not only is it educational (how often do we get to see the inner workings of things we use everyday?), it’s free!  We’re looking forward to tinkering with some of the stuff that are broken or no longer working here at home: a flashlight, a video game controller, a remote, a tablet and a DVD player! Will post those once we do them for sure!
