Buwan ng Wika 2014

August is Buwan ng Wika or the National Language Month in the Philippines. I must admit, my boys don’t speak a lot of Filipino and I do want to address this so I’m thinking of coming up with activities for us this month that would expose them more to Filipino.

The theme this year is “Filipino: Wika ng Pagkakaisa” (Filipino: Language of Unity). So, were thinking of doing the following activities for this month:

1. Know the Lupang Hinirang by heart. Nikki knows most of the words but Ethan has great difficulty reading the lyrics when we do our flag ceremony in the mornings.

2. Read at least 1 Filipino book daily.

3. We plan on visiting Museo Pambata but the weather doesn’t seem to be cooperating. It’s been raining everyday and it’s such a hassle to commute with my 3 boys. I don’t want to risk them getting sick.  We’ll just have to wait for a week when the skies are clear then.

4. Speak more Tagalog at home.

5. Make a poster on Manuel L Quezon, the Father of our National Language.

I guess this will have to do for now.  We’re looking forward to our activities and we hope we’ll get to do all of them. 🙂

So excited!
