Summer Activity #6

6. Do something good for the Earth.

Today happens to be Earth Day so I gave Nikki a book to read.  It’s 50 Simple Things Kids Can Do To Save The Earth.  Really interesting.  Some tips in the book are:

a. Don’t throw any kind of litter on the beach. We do this. We’re always careful with our trash. We hate it when people toss stuff out of their cars or jeepneys.  Litterbugs are a no-no!

b. Keep a “rag bag” handy. Put your old, torn clothes in it, and you’ll have a supply of rags to help you out with messy chores or art projects.  We do this too!  We have an old bucket (with a cracked bottom) filled with rags and torn clothes.  It’s easy to throw away dirty rags and replace them with new.

c. Use things that don’t need batteries, like a solar calculator, which runs on light.  We still have to be more conscious about using electricity less.

d. It’s cool to bring a bag with you when you go shopping.  We use eco-bags a LOT!  Especially when we are in the Muntinlupa/Las Pinas areas. Really great knowing that we’re helping the Earth in little ways.

Now it’s your turn. 🙂

  1. We try to compost our veggie and fruit peels in our container garden. We also join the Earth Hour “switch-off” for an hour in March (this year was our 3rd year). We recycle (anything we can). Energy conservation is part of our lifestyle also…there’s lots we can do to help the Earth!

    • that’s awesome! we try to be resourceful too and not wasteful. my boys always think twice about throwing something away. wish we had a garden though…
