Preparing for Valentine’s Day

I have been searching the ‘net for some ideas for things to do that’s Valentine’s Day related. I’m sure Nikki will appreciate the holiday more if we do activities catered to it. We already started making some Valentine’s cards. I know it’s a bit early but their dad is leaving for Japan tomorrow (Monday) and we want him to have the cards when he leaves so he could read them there. Anyway, I’m still trying to look for other activities and so far, I’m quite happy with ideas on the DLTK website. We already made the butterfly, chick and dog cards (made out of hearts) and I’m looking for some games and puzzles and worksheets for them to do over the next few days. Maybe on Valentine’s Day itself, we could read a nice poem like this one:

It’s All I Have to Bring To-day
by Emily Dickenson

It’s all I have to bring to-day,
This, and my heart beside,
This, and my heart, and all the fields,
And all the meadows wide.
Be sure you count, should I forget, —
Someone the sum could tell, —
This, and my heart, and all the bees
Which in the clover dwell.

At least this will expose Nikki to poems and rhymes other than the Dr. Seuss version. =D We’re not expecting much to happen on Valentine’s Day since we don’t have anything planned then but maybe we could press some flowers or make it another creative day of learning.
